About this skill
TaiT CRT Interface is a style skill with a very specific target: the screen of an early personal computer. Think of the first Macintosh, French Minitel terminals and 8-bit home machines — chunky pixels, a few phosphor colours, windows with thick title bars, and the slight curvature and glow of a cathode-ray tube. You bring a portrait, a photograph or just a theme, and the skill builds one illustration in that world.
The composition follows a fixed logic. Your subject is redrawn as large pixel art that fills the background like desktop wallpaper, without a frame of its own. On top of it float three to six interface windows and one to three “feature extraction” panels — small windows that zoom in on a detail of the subject, as if a program were analysing it. Every element snaps to one shared square grid, so the image reads as a single coherent screen rather than a collage.
Colour is deliberately constrained. You can pick one of eight preset palettes or let the skill derive two to five colours from your own image, then choose an aspect ratio (3:4, 4:3, 9:16 or 16:9) and one of three named layout templates. The image itself is generated with Codex’s built-in image tool. What makes the result consistent is the post-processing: bundled Python scripts using Pillow force the pixels onto the grid, remap colours to the palette, and add dithering, scanlines, glow, noise and a fixed barrel distortion before stamping the author’s signature in the corner.
That signature, and the absence of a licence file, are worth noting. The repository publishes no licence, which means the author keeps all rights: you can install and use the skill for yourself, but you should ask before redistributing the skill, its templates or its sample images. The README is written in both Chinese and English, and installation is manual — download the folder into your Codex skills directory, or give Codex the repository link and ask it to install the skill for you.
It works best for avatars, poster art and social images where a retro-tech feel is the point.
